James D. O’Hoppe

President, Greater New York City Region

Jim oversees all Wealth Management services in New York City, Long Island, and Northern New Jersey, as well as some of the largest client relationships throughout the U.S. He is also executive vice president and a senior member of the Wealth leadership team. Jim leads a team of professionals who provide investment management, advanced planning, private banking, trustee and family office services. He brings a broad and long-term perspective on the changing needs of high-net-worth individuals, multigenerational families, foundations, and endowments.

Prior to joining Wilmington Trust, Jim was senior vice president and managing director at Bernstein Private Wealth Management where he helped lead the New York area private client business. In this role, he oversaw all business development, strategy, support, client service, marketing, compliance, hiring, training, and development across his group. Jim joined Bernstein in 2003 as a financial advisor, and during his tenure, he served as a principal, director, and managing director of the firm’s largest regional office. He also chaired multiple national advisor conferences and was chair of the New York Office Financial Advisor Council. Prior to Bernstein, Jim spent 12 years in the telecom and technology industries.

Jim holds an MBA from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University. He is an active contributor to Cornell’s Families in Business Institute. He and his family are active volunteers in their local community. In 2017, he and his wife established the James and Kimberly O’Hoppe Charitable Fund to continue their philanthropic interests and involvement. Jim and his family reside in Darien, Connecticut.
